Description

Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere.Dropbox is a Web-based file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc. that uses cloud computing to enable users to store and share files and folders with others across the Internet using file synchronization. It was founded in 2007 by MIT graduates Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi as a Y Combinator startup.

dropbox free downloadSynchronization:
Once installed, any file you drop into your Dropbox folder will synchronize and be available on any other computer you’ve installed Dropbox on, as well as from the web. Also, any changes you make to files in your Dropbox will sync to your other computers, instantly.

Key features of Dropbox:

Backup:
Let’s say you accidentally delete that 8 page report that you were supposed to have for a meeting tomorrow. A handy Dropbox feature is the ability to undelete files or pull up any previous versions of it.

Sharing:
You can also share files and folders with whomever you choose, whether it be music with buddies, docs with colleagues or photos with grandma, even if they’re not Dropbox users.

Speed:
We obsess over speed, and it shows. Dropbox is very smart about the way it handles files. For example, if you make a change to a huge file, dropbox will only update the piece of the file that changed.

Security:
All files are transported over SSL and encrypted using AES-256 (banks use this too).

Its very convenient mode and best way for transferring bulk data through online. It’s very handy, thought out and easy to use. The Android app needs a bit work regarding image drops and direct grabs but other than that, my discovery of the year.

Can the Dropbox connection be used with a proxy, like SafeIP (hide the dropbox IP)?

My favorite file sharing/sync service. It is amazingly easy to use up the 2GB free quota. I love that it is available on all major platforms, including my EVO android phone. I have even been able to leverage it for my outlook PSTs so i have all my archived work email available at home.

I love Dropbox. I use it as a way to sync files and as a secondary off site backup tool. A great app and I highly recommend it. If you use it, pay for it so it will stick around.
Now my project files are being automatically synced to my PC from the computer at the College Lab. That way its easy to keep track of things, and you don’t need lots of email attachments to fly all over the places… Its great…
